FACTS
Sexual assault allegations against presidential candidate Joe Biden have been circulating this week. At least two individuals, a former neighbor of Biden’s accuser Tara Reade, as well as a former colleague, disclosed information about her experience with him as a senior female campaign staffer in the early 1990s. Biden was a Delaware State Senator at the time. There are now five accounts in support of Reade’s sexual assault claims.
Meanwhile, Biden, who has not addressed these allegations, has said he is putting together a committee that will select his running partner for the upcoming presidential election.
LEFT
Some are accusing Reade of false accusations in an attempt to smear Biden’s reputation before election season. Biden’s deputy campaign manager Kate Bedingfield said, “What is clear about this claim: it is untrue. This absolutely did not happen.” Marianne Baker, former long-term executive assistant for Biden, also denied ever receiving complaints from Reade.
Others on the left are calling on Biden to directly answer these claims, noting the importance of how he handles them for his upcoming presidential campaign. It has been said that the progress of the #MeToo movement will be severely affronted if Democrats are unwilling to seriously consider the accusations against Biden.
Interestingly, Reade’s former neighbor who is supporting Reads allegations, a strong supporter of the Democratic Party, will still be voting for Biden in the fall. Reade, also a Democrat, will not be giving her vote to either Biden or Trump.
RIGHT
The right believes Reade’s account to be credible. They claim her allegations have been consistent, with each supporting account of the events lining up with her own.
Many are criticizing the hypocrisy of the left in the situation, recalling the similar case of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. The media crucified Kavanaugh for allegations of sexual misconduct presented against him during his appointment by President Trump to the US Supreme Court. They claim accusations against Biden are more founded and yet the mainstream media has been mostly silent. Similarly, Biden himself once said, “We have arrived at an important time when women feel they can and should relate their experiences, (and) men should pay attention. And I will.”
CNN published more than 700 stories on allegations against Kavanaugh when there was no evidence he even met his accuser. They haven’t published a single one on Biden’s accuser who worked for him. Let’s not forget ‘Me Too’ movement are complete hypocrites https://t.co/PoKYxw2tsh
