Most of the Washington Nationals baseball players visited the White House after winning the World Series. When speaking at the podium from the south portico of the White House, the team’s catcher, Kurt Suzuki, wore a red Make America Great Again cap.

Some on the left agree that it is Suzuki’s right to express his opinions in opposition to what they perceive as the conservative rhetoric where many on the right often say: “stick to sports” when a celebrity speaks out about their liberal beliefs. Others on the left, such as left-wing political blog Palmer Report, opposed Suzuki’s wearing of the red cap, likening it to wearing a swastika and said he should be banned from the sport.

Suzuki was simply supporting the president of his country, a country he is proud of. Suzuki suggested wearing the cap wasn’t a political statement—just part of celebrating their win.
