McConnell Pushes for More Judicial Confirmations
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is preparing to push for the confirmation of around 30 more judicial nominees before the end of 2019. Republicans have already placed 43 Trump appointees on the Circuit Court which means Trump appointed judges account for 24% of the total Federal Circuit Court judges. Since President Trump took office, Republicans have confirmed more than 150 of his judicial nominees.
Judicial appointments have not been a hot button issue for Democrats in the past. Most of these vacancies President Trump has filled were left open by President Obama (142 vacancies). The Democrats appear much more focused on their Impeachment Inquiry than using judicial nominees to energize their base.
“Here's what we can do to slow down judges: win in 2020. So all the folks who are grousing about the pace of judges, they should put all their effort into making sure that we win the majority in 2020.” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn) (Vice News)
Conservatives consistently cite the importance of judicial appointments as one of the leading reasons President Trump won the 2016 election. Conservatives see control of the Judiciary as a means to roll back Left wing social policies like abortion and gay marriage.
“Trump has often touted the record number of conservative judges that he has been able to successfully confirm to the bench, which many consider to be his greatest accomplishment and will ultimately be his legacy.” Molly Prince (Daily Wire)
