Dear Christians: You are Called to HATE Evil
I’ve seen a lot of articles (like this one) recently, written by professed Christians, calling for their fellow believers to abandon voting for President Trump in the upcoming election. We are less than two weeks away from an election that could very well decide the fate of our nation and so-called Christians are actively encouraging their brethren to abandon their duty to hate evil. This is both repugnant and unacceptable and I for one will not stand for it. My friends, if you identify yourself as a follower of Christ, you MUST vote and you MUST vote against every Democrat that appears on your ballot.
The Bible tells us that we are to hate evil (Proverbs 8:13, Psalm 97:10, Amos 5:15, Romans 12:9 etc). The dictionary defines “evil” as “morally reprehensible: Sinful, wicked.” “Hate” is defined as, “intense hostility and aversion usually deriving from fear, anger, or sense of injury.” We are called to be angry and disgusted by the sinful rejection of God’s law. We are called to oppose evil at every juncture. The Psalmist tells us to not even sit with the wicked (Psalm 26:5).
“Trump is a bully,” they say. “He’s uncouth, disrespectful, arrogant, an adulterer etc.” All of these things may very well be true, but they are irrelevant to the situation at hand. The Democratic Party actively supports and participates in the slaughter of millions of unborn children and the degradation of marriage. These attacks on children and the family unit are not simple policy differences, but sins that cry out to heaven for vengeance.
If Trump’s character sickens you, that is fine. You do not have to like the President, attend his rallies, or put a Trump sign in your yard. You probably would not have been much of a fan of King David either. He was an adulterer, a murderer, a poor father, and husband and yet David is described as a “man after God’s own heart” (1 Samuel 13:14 & Acts 13:22). David was not considered a man after God’s own heart BECAUSE of his moral character, but despite it. This is because David had a zeal for honoring God’s desires (or policies). In a similar vein, President Trump and the Republican party support protecting the lives of the unborn and the Christian definition of marriage.
Christ was adamant about protecting children and those without a firmly held moral principle. Our Lord said in Matthew 8:6-7, “but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea. Woe to the world because of its stumbling blocks! For it is inevitable that stumbling blocks come; but woe to that man through whom the stumbling block comes!” I for one do not want to be affiliated with those attacking Christ’s little ones, nor do I want to be a stumbling block for my friends and family by encouraging people to vote in a way that promotes policies that are antithetical to God’s will.
On November 3rd you have the opportunity to exercise your God given duty to oppose evil. Do not be discouraged or led astray by confusing rhetoric that seeks to distract you from the very real evils supported by the Democratic party. Do not be fearful because your family, friends, and neighbors express hatred and disgust for the Good and the Just. Christ told us that the world will hate us because they first hated Him (John 15:18). Stand humbly and boldly for what is Good and True on November 3rd. Use your vote to oppose evil, and most importantly, pray for our nation.
