Joe Biden “I’m an old guy”
Facts
In a viral video from a recent campaign stop in Iowa, former Vice President Joe Biden said that his pick for a Vice Presidential running mate needs to be “…capable of [being] president because I’m an old guy.” The former Vice President apparently caught that his words could be misconstrued after there was some laughter from the crowd and followed up with, “No, I’m serious. Look, I thank God I’m in great health. I work out. No, I’m serious. You know, I work out every morning. I’m in good shape — knock on wood, as my mother would say.”
Left
We did not find any Left-wing outlets expressly addressing Biden’s comment other than to clarify that he followed up with the comment that he is in fact healthy. The former Vice President has a history of speaking gaffes that are acknowledged by folks on both sides of the political spectrum. In a recent article in the Washington Post, Matt Viser discussed numerous “sayings” used by Joe Biden on the campaign trail and called them “Bidenisms.”
Right
Some on the Right see Biden’s speaking errors as a sign of cognitive issues. At another recent town hall event in Iowa, the former Vice President could not recall the date when he and former President Barack Obama were first elected. TWITTER LINK
At a Marshalltown, Iowa, town hall on 01/26, Joe Biden was recounting waiting for Obama to pick him up to head to the inauguration in “January of 2012, actually 2013, no wait a minute, we got elected in 2012, 2010 or 13.”
