Kanye West is trending on Twitter, again. A critically acclaimed rapper and producer, he has recently raised speculations about his mental health after a series of since-deleted Twitter posts, a sprawling interview with Forbes, and a campaign speech in which he breaks down crying about abortion. West recently announced that he would be running for president in the upcoming 2020 elections.
West’s long-time friend and rapper GLC said that his recent episodes are due to mental problems and prescription drugs that he likened to heroin and crack cocaine. Comedian Dave Chappelle recently flew to West’s Wyoming ranch to check on him following his Twitter posts. Some have criticized Forbes for failing to notice or mention his mental state in their interview with him:
“You don’t have to be a psychiatrist (as I am) to know that West is not in a rational frame of mind. The proper reaction is neither to take him seriously nor to laugh at him.”Sally Satel, USA TODAY opinion contributor
West’s wife of six years, Kim Kardashian, has called for compassion and understanding to be extended to West as he struggles with his mental health. She expressed how “incredibly complicated and painful” mental illness can be, and stated:
“Living with bi-polar disorder does not diminish or invalidate his dreams and his creative ideas, no matter how big or unobtainable they may feel to some. That is part of his genius and as we have all witnessed, many of his big dreams have come true.”Kim Kardashian West
A #FreeKanye hashtag has started, likening West’s “entrapment” to that of Britney Spears, of whom a #FreeBritney movement came about – one that says Spears is under conservatorship due to psychiatric issues and has virtually no control of her own life. The same has been argued of West regarding the Kardashians’ power, especially Kim’s mother Kris who he referred to as “Kris Jong-Un.”

While he has been ridiculed for his tears during his campaign speech, others have defended his emotional state regarding abortion.
Hollywood was quick to attack Kanye West (a man who cried about abortion), but defend Chrissy Teigen (a woman who made sexualized “jokes” about children).— samanthamarika (@samanthamarika1) July 22, 2020
Let that sink in.
