Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn has been exonerated by the Department of Justice of charges made against him. Flynn was charged with lying to the FBI regarding discussions with Russia after he pleaded guilty in 2017. However, after additional documents and evidence were recently disclosed, the DOJ reviewed his case and found that the FBI had no basis for interviewing him for his alleged “crime” to start with. The Department explained that despite Flynn admitting to lying, in order for a lie to be considered a federal crime, it must pertain to the matter under investigation. Since the investigation was illegitimate and unfounded, they concluded that Flynn’s statements were immaterial.
The Left is up in arms over the decision, calling it “outrageous,” unprecedented, and a move which proves corruption is “eating the Justice Department from the inside out.” They claim that when Flynn was first investigated, the Department of Justice at the time determined there was ample evidence of Flynn’s involvement with Russia to interview him. It is believed that he has been cleared of his charges due to his friendship with the President. Some are calling for investigation by the inspector general. The Left views the decision as a threat to justice, confirming the untrustworthiness of both General Barr and President Trump’s administration.
A recent call by former president Obama voiced his frustrations about the unprecedented event.
The Right views the Flynn case as a “tragedy of justice delayed.” The case exhibiting Former FBI Director Michael Comey’s lack of credibility, as well as the corruption of the investigation into the “Trump-Russia Collusion.” It is believed Comey set up Flynn in an interrogation with no “legitimate investigative purpose.”
It is believed Obama was directly involved. “Obama worked with the FBI and intel agencies, knew everything about the counterintelligence program targeting the Trump Campaign,” stated Mark Levin, adding that Obama was never once questioned about the Flynn situation. Regarding the belief by some that the FBI, CIA, and Department of Justice set up Flynn apart from Obama’s knowledge, Levin noted, “You’re not going to send spies in the opposition campaign without giving the president a heads up. You’re not going to mess around with a dossier like they did without the president of the United States knowing about the dossier.”
House Republicans recently voiced their concern that current FBI Director Christopher Wray has failed to expose past FBI misconduct from the Obama-era, a move which delayed the resolve of Flynn’s case.
