WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a bold move to protect children from what he calls "dangerous and irreversible procedures," President Donald J. Trump signed an executive order today banning all federal support for transgender medical treatments for minors. The sweeping order prohibits federal funds from being used for puberty blockers, hormone therapies, and gender reassignment surgeries for individuals under 18.
President Trump, fulfilling a key campaign promise, declared that his administration "will not allow taxpayer dollars to fund the mutilation of America’s children." The executive order is a direct response to the growing debate over gender-affirming care, which has sparked nationwide controversy.
“This is about protecting our kids,” Trump stated during the signing ceremony. “Minors are not old enough to make life-altering decisions about their bodies. We will not stand by while activist doctors and radical ideologues push harmful drugs and irreversible surgeries on children.”
The order bars federal agencies from promoting or funding transgender medical treatments for minors, including through Medicaid, military healthcare programs, or federal research grants. Additionally, it directs the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to review and revoke existing policies that support gender-affirming care for minors.
Critics of the executive order argue that it violates the rights of transgender youth and their families. Progressive organizations, including the ACLU and Human Rights Campaign, have already vowed to challenge the order in court. Some Democratic-led states, such as California and New York, have signaled that they will push back by expanding state-level funding for transgender healthcare.
“Trump’s order is a direct attack on transgender children and their right to healthcare,” said a spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign. “We will fight this in court and ensure that families can make medical decisions without government interference.”
Despite expected legal battles, Trump’s move aligns with a growing number of Republican-led states that have already passed similar bans at the state level. States like Florida, Texas, and Tennessee have enacted laws restricting medical interventions for minors, citing concerns over long-term health effects and ethical considerations.
The executive order reignites the national debate on transgender healthcare. Supporters argue that minors lack the maturity to consent to medical procedures with lifelong consequences, pointing to studies highlighting the risks of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones.
Dr. Jane Miller, a pediatric endocrinologist, praised Trump’s decision. “There is no long-term research proving these treatments are safe for minors. The risks of sterility, bone density loss, and cognitive impact are too great to ignore.”
Meanwhile, activists and left-wing medical organizations claim that gender-affirming care is "life-saving" for transgender youth. However, polling suggests that a majority of Americans remain skeptical about allowing minors to undergo medical transition. A recent Gallup poll found that over 65% of Americans oppose puberty blockers and surgeries for minors, reflecting a significant shift in public sentiment.
This executive order is part of a broader push by the Trump administration to roll back radical gender ideology in schools, healthcare, and federal agencies. Earlier this year, the administration reinstated protections for women's sports, ensuring that biological males cannot compete in female athletics at the federal level.
“Children should not be pawns in a political agenda,” Trump emphasized. “We will continue fighting to restore common sense and protect our kids from this madness.”
As the legal battles unfold, Trump’s order signals a major shift in federal policy and a strong stance against the left’s gender agenda. With growing support from conservatives and parents across the country, this could mark a turning point in the fight to safeguard America’s youth.
